...I have been reading and studying from your web-site for days now.  Yes I do believe that I have a call to be a monk.
And I have a request...... may I have it (Monastic Certificate) dated March 17, 2006 (St. Patrick's Day)?  It would be an honor to begin on this day!
Blessings and peace to you,
Nathaniel F. (Virginia)

We are currently in pre-production for a new show for Turkey called “Bread of Life” (Yasam Ekmegi in Turkish).  The 13 episode series based on the books of Acts will be shot in the CBN Studios in Nashville , Tennessee.  I was reading up on the 9 hour mini series A.D., which really caught my attention immediately.  We would like permission to use video clips from the film.  What is the procedure to acquire the rights?  I would like to talk to you as soon as possible.  Thank you for your prompt assistance in this matter.                                                Edwin M. Chamorro                                                                                Producer at World Reach, CBN (Virginia Beach, Virginia)

Hello, my name is Chris and I go to Punahou School in Hawaii.  We are
doing a research project on monasticism, and I have a few questions.
How does being a monk affect your daily routine?
Has becoming a monk helped bring you closer to God, in your opinion?
In what ways  does the Portland Monastery give back to its community?
Thank you for your time,
Chris (Hawaii)

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Greetings:
I do want to join the Order as I do agree with your Statement of Faith and everything I have read, so far.
I am 73 years old, ordained as a Baptist clergy person years ago.  Later was a pastor in the United Methodist Church but left the full time ministry in 1987 for Lay Ministry, Lay Speaking Ministries, and a secular profession.  Although I am retired now I still preach and teach as called upon.  My wife is pastor of a United Methodist Church where we live.
We have been prayer warriors for a number of years and always started prayer chains and prayer groups in churches where we have served.
Thanks and Blessings,                                                                               Richard B.+

First of all I would like to thank you for what you are doing, it is a
great blessing.  I...am very eager to become a lay (hopefully someday full) monk.
I am a Theology major with an emphasis in Biblical Studies at Colorado Christian University and am constantly studying the Bible.  This semester I have to read the entire Bible just to pass my courses.  Also, I have to complete readings on Biblical commentaries and exegesis and hermenutics.  ...I want to follow your course as truly as possible.
Blessings in Him,
Benjamin L. (Denver, Colorado)

I've been rattling around on this planet for a half century now.  I'm married
to the same precious woman for 26+ years and I wouldn't trade her for anything.  I have been a Christian by Scriptural definition for 35 years and an ordained deacon for almost 25 years.  By denominational affiliation, Southern Baptist.
About 3 - 4 weeks ago I found The Prayer Foundation
website and started
reading as I had indicated before.  I also looked at several other New Monastic community websites.  These included Lindisfarne, Iona, Northumbria, Taize, L'Abri, Jesus
Abbey
, and several other websites I cannot recall at the moment.  It appears that New Monasticism has the potential to do much good for the church as a whole.  In some instances there seems to be a heavy emphasis on mysticism (Eastern and or Western), Roman Catholic practices, Eastern religious practices or various combinations.  These are things that cause me grave concern, as the church has enough difficulty in staying true already.  Having examined all of this, you are the only group that I would consider joining with.
Your beliefs, as stated, are consistent with my own.  Your purpose is timely
and much needed in the church today.  Bible study and prayer are probably the most difficult disciplines to be able to consistently maintain.
Yours in Christ,
Steve (Missouri)

I am a graduate of Multnomah Bible College and my wife and I are in the candidate preparation process with our church to go on mission to China within the next 2-3 years.  We believe God is leading us to be involved with a communal ministry currently working with orphans outside of Beijing.  I have been doing a little research on monasticism...
Before I found out about (your) ministry I believe God burdened me with the notion of being involved with and eventually starting a monastic movement in China emphasizing prayer, community, and outreach.  This sounds absolutely crazy to me and I have kept it pretty much to myself and my wife.  I feel completely inadequate and cannot see how this could possibly happen.  I just got back from a trip to China with Luis Palau and will probably be returning this spring.
Blessings,
Steve W. (Portland, Oregon)

I really enjoy your site.  I'm very interested in my Celtic heritage.  Especially Celtic Christianity.  I only started visiting your site a few days ago.  The praying of the hours intrigues me.  Though I'm not sure I quite understand it.  Do you just pray through the daily reading once during the appointed time.  Such as: Pray the morning set of Psalms once or do you read through them again for a certain amount of time?  I know that it doesn't take me very long to read through them once and then I feel like I shouldn't be done.  If you could possibly answer this for me I'd appreciate it.
In Christ,
Annette (California)
Reply from The Prayer Foundation: We pray the Psalms to the Lord as prayers, as opposed to the Old and New Testament readings, which we read as the Lord speaking to us.  Your own personal prayers and prayer-time can be added after (or before or during) the scheduled readings and Psalms to pray.
If you are looking for more to do, we suggest looking at our Growing In Christ Monastic Training Course, which is posted free to all on our website (it's listed on our Site Map under the PRAYER FOUNDATION Category --- under the Sub-heading "Monastic Training").  This training course by Monk Preston includes scripture memorization and other basic spiritual disciplines, and suggests some "Classic" Christian books to read to lay a good basic Christian foundation, whether someone is a new Christian or as a "refresher course" for those who have been Christians for most of their lives.
