typing into Google: Pilgrims'
Progress John Bunyan movie. I was almost done reading this
masterpiece of Christian literature, and was wondering if a movie had
been adapted from it. What a blessed surprise to find your
website! I had no idea such an organization existed. I am an
Evangelical Protestant Christian and have been for 23 years. I have been
interested in the monastic life since I began listening to the music of
the Franciscan monk John
Michael Talbot. I even visited a Trappist monastery in Lafayette,
Oregon for a week. I considered becoming a monk, but all that I
saw was far too Catholic for me. While I am not out and out
opposed to Catholicism, I don't agree with many of their doctrines and
their at times putting Church tradition over the Bible for authority... Thanks for existing! You look like a good fit
for me, a way to learn more 2/21/05______________________________ Survey:

When you go to Mexico to
preach the Gospel, how are your received? Do you take the same
approach as you would in Portland? Are you able to speak the
Truth plainly to strangers in all situations?
We are with an organization
called CrossWorld and plan to move to Mexico as the Lord
provides. The basic approach they use is relationship
evangelism, but I'm interested to know how you approach evangelism
there.

from The Prayer Foundation ™:
Monk
Bob
does actual street preaching---he hands out tracts only to those who
seem especially interested---he prays with those who want to receive
Christ on the spot. He does it this way because he has been
doing it this way since he got out of the Navy at the end of
WWII---until the present time at age 78.
He preaches
exactly the same way here in Portland---three times a day here---the
only difference is he preaches more often down there---for instance,
43 times in one 10-day visit. The other difference, of course,
is that he preaches in Mexico in Spanish---he has been totally
fluent in Spanish for about forty years, now. He says:
"The
people are good, friendly people---open to the Gospel---they are
especially open to getting portions of the Bible because they don't
have their own---they almost never turn down tracts---maybe one or
two out of 100 might---their courtesy and curiosity cause them to
accept them---they almost never are offered tracts, or indeed
anything free. The bigger the cities the better---250,000 or
above to a million population is good. In the geographical
center of Mexico, I highly recommend for opening a ministry work:
San Luis Potosi, a wonderful place to minister---about 1,000,000
people----prices are very low---rents cheap---it is open to
preaching---they won't arrest you or bother you there---the Police will
watch you but not bother you, often listening themselves---there are
many women police there, also. Some cities are closed to
preaching and the police (think Army soldiers) will arrest you or
put a shotgun to your head and tell you to leave town."
In the last
three years Monk
Bob
has made 31 evangelistic forays into Mexico all over the country---5
times to San Luis Potosi---he would probably go just there all of
the time except it is very far away compared to other places in
northern Mexico that he goes to, and takes much longer to get
there. He travels there by Bus, which he pays for himself out
of his meager Social Security.

Please send us your newsletter.
Thanks very much. May
the Lord bless the work you may do for His precious Name.
P.S.: In 1990 I read some
books about the life of George
Müller during my time at the Mission School of Medicine in
London. Biographies, written by Miller and Steer. As Grace
Publishing House we would like to publish a book of George Müller
in the Dutch language. No book of him is available at the moment. Please
could you advise me? I am very interested in the book of Bonnie
Harvey (George Muller: Man of Faith).
I look forward to your
news.
Kind regards,
Jan,

Monastic Orders 2/15/05_____________________________________________ Fellow Prayer Warriors, ...I take up my first Pastor's role in a small country church in Queensland, Australia. Praise the Lord, that God has seen fit to provide me with this paid ministry position!! God answered my pray and now I am getting paid for God's work! The church is Mt. Walker Church of Christ and has a congregation of around 50 people, they have been without a minister for 12 months, and this is an answer to their prayers and mine. It is a privilege that God has granted to me to be a minister in His work. It is something that I have only ever dreamed about and even late last year I did not think that it would become a reality. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Monk Nigel (Australia) 2/14/05_____________________________________________ Dear Monks, 2/13/05_____________________________________________
I have two Masters Degrees; one in Religious Education. I also have a Doctorate from Southern California Theological Seminary. I have been an Ordained Minister since 1974. My family and I pioneered 20 ministries in Scotland, Ireland, Germany, California and Seattle. I love interdenominational work. My first two years after being born again I spent handing out tracts on Hollywood Blvd., and starting Christian coffee houses. In the 70's I got to work with Brother Andrew smuggle bibles into Russia. I got to attend L'Abri with the Schaeffers, and help Richard Wurmbrandt during the Munich Olympics Outreach with the YWAM team. I was thrilled to see your position on evangelical monks, I went through all your chosen readings. They are some of my favorites. I love the idea of being a part of a movement that could include millions of disenfranchised Christians around the world who are totally devoted to our Lord Jesus Christ. I am so proud of the stand you have made regarding Women as Monks, the history list of the forefathers of Evangelical Monasticism like Martin Luther and the others (Brief History of Protestant Monasticism). My family, the Farquharsons-McKerrachers, were almost
wiped out 2/12/05_____________________________________________
Thank you so much for answering my questions. Explaining the
reference of "Oblates" was quite important to us, as this
would be of interest for sure, even in our Orthodox Faith.
Well, you have an exciting ministry, and offer a wonderful service for people such as myself who may never be able to be monk in sense that the world may think. "Monks at heart."
Was thinking if we (myself and my husband, Danny) become
lay monks in The Prayer Foundation™...am
very excited about this....women have always played important parts in
Jesus ministry and founding: Mary Magdalene, Jesus mother, Salome,
Mary the mother of Cleopas, and on and on and on.
...it is true that your lifestyle resembles much of the Orthodox
faith, and the creed is in keeping with our beliefs (of course).
In Christ,
Carol Ann (New York State)

Oh it was so good to
see your site back up and active again!!
I've been checking
just about every day. The Prayer Foundation ™ site had
become such a part of my daily life, praying with the requests,
reading the Celtic and Franciscan pages, etc.
Just wanted to tell
you that I'm praying for you all,
and I'm so delighted
to have you back in my day.
