I found your Site by searching for E. M. Bounds.  I am a Born-again Christian.  I like most everything I've come across on your website.        If this Site is for real, I think it's about as perfect as it can get this side of Heaven.
I have been visiting  your Site daily.  It's very interesting.  I love the idea of a simple yet fulfilling lifestyle.
Keep up the good work.  Your website is an encouragement.
I have also decided to sign up for a time slot on your 24-hr. Prayerchain as a Prayer Warrior.

It was actually your E. M. Bounds:  Power Through Prayer page that I was on when I saw a word (monks) that caught my attention.  I clicked on it and forgot all about Mr. Bounds because I was so fascinated with your site.  I have been checking your site out every day for several days and love the idea of a place dedicated to prayer and the study of scriptures (my daughter and granddaughter were visiting  yesterday and I told her that she had to see my favorite website.  She was also impressed).  In the world we live in today, so many of us stay busy trying to do something meaningful, and overlook the most important thing we can do: pray.  I am glad that I found your site.                                                                   God Bless.                                                                                                              Yours in Christ,

I will be attending a "Medieval Fair" on the 29th of May in my home-town...  Many people in our area are very interested in history, and it is my hope that while at this fair, with people who are open to the things of the past, I may be able to share with them the love and simplicity of "Celtic" Christianity.  There have been many church divisions in our area, and a lot of folks have been left angry, hurt, and without a spiritual home.  My heart breaks over the thought of them losing their faith.
Thank you.

Please help me to find inner peace.  I am desperate.

David (Edinburgh, Scotland)

Reply from The Prayer Foundation Whatever it is we are searching for, we can only be satisfied by Jesus Christ, because he is the one who created us (John 1:1-3).  As Pascal wrote, "God has created us with a God-shaped vaccuum inside of us that can only be filled by God Himself."

Saint Augustine, after a life of sexual license and membership as a Teacher  in a non-Christian Cult system (Manichaeanism), finally gave his life to God by receiving Christ; putting it this way, "Our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee." ("The Confessions" of St. Augustine).

Peace is found only in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives, give I to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (John 14:27).  Read the entire chapters 14-17 of the Gospel of John), which include:

"These things have I spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace.  In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." (John 16:33).

What you need is to receive the Salvation offered only through Christ.  This is obtained through repenting, or being sorry for your sins, and turning your life over to Christ; as both Savior, for the forgiveness your of sins, and as the Lord of your life.  Then you can begin living for Him in His way, now---by his grace, or undeserved free gift; and in His strength, not our own (see our page: Plan of Salvation for a more complete explanation of this).

Once you have been forgiven of your sins and received Christ (the Bible calls this our "justification"), you can then begin living the Christian life; a lifelong process of sanctification (being conformed to the image of Christ and living a holy life).  This is also obtained totally through Christ by grace (unmerited favor).  You must be willing to forsake your past life and sins, and desire to serve Christ in the newness of the life that he has given you (see our: Growing In Christ Training Course which is posted free to all on our website).

Dear Monk Linda,
Can a Lady Monk wear makeup?  In your picture at the Wedding Celebration!, it looks like you are wearing makeup, and I have always wondered why so many religions teach against this.  It seems like God would want us to look as attractive and nice as possible (without being terribly vain or seductive).

This probably seems like a really stupid question, but I'm just curious about your thoughts on this.

I am very happy you have founded a monastic order that includes lay and married people.
Good for you, and God bless!

Sincerely,
Margaret (California)
Reply from Monk Linda Yes, Lady Monks can wear makeup!  We have no rules in this area.  We try to avoid both legalism and extremism.  Of course, there are times and places for self-denial, but the important thing is always that God is concerned with your "heart attitude."  As the Bible teaches, "...for the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart." (I Samuel 16:7).

We also believe that there is no such thing as a "stupid" question.  However, we do not really have anything more to say on it than you already have, because we totally agree with you.  As you say, "It seems like God would want us to look as attractive and nice as possible (without being terribly vain or seductive)."   This is where we should use common sense.  For example, Billy Graham and his wife, Ruth Graham, just by trying to look nice in their appearance, did so much to make Christians seem more "normal", while being strong for the Bible and not "watering down" the message of the Gospel in any way.

I just wanted to say thanks for your web pages and your ministry.  The Lord has been leading me toward monastic life ever since I read The Monks of New Skeet's book on raising dogs; we have two, and three cats.  Then I found their book on happiness.  I enjoyed it and learned  from it.  I have been looking for all the information I can find about the monastic life and I found your pages.  I have signed up to pray Monday mornings and am praying about becoming a monk.  I am a Bible College Graduate, Preacher, Missionary to Argentina, and now working has a houseparent, with my wife Jean, at a Children's Home in Illinois.  We have 6 boys now, we can have up to 8.  It keeps us going.  All I really wanted to say is thanks for your ministry and I am praying for you daily during my prayers of supplication at night.
God Bless,
Rich (Illinois)
