brothers and sisters in Christ, I have told a
few evangelical friends of mine about my desire to attend this monastery
and they feel uneasy about it, so I would greatly appreciate it if you
could tell me your reasons for living life this way and it's benefits
with scriptural backing. After reading through your website I have
little doubt of your devotion to our Creator, but I am wondering if it
would be possible for me to visit the monastery and maybe talk to a few
of the monks face to face. What I am wanting is to become closer
to my Saviour through prayer, reading my bible, praising my Saviour, and
fellowshipping with a group of people with similar sentiments.
Will I find that there? I am eagerly waiting on your response.
Note
from The Prayer Foundation ™
: You raise many
points, which we will try to answer.
Becoming closer to our Saviour through prayer, reading the
bible, praising our Saviour, and fellowshipping with a group of
people with similar sentiments, are goals that we have set up our
lifestyle to accomplish, yes, but these are all things that you
should be, and can be, doing right now, and right where you are.
We do not agree with your reasoning
for not wanting to attend Bible College. Some of us have
attended Bible College, and found it to be a very beneficial experience. If
the media can "lead you astray", then not having access to
it just means that you will be "led astray" by whatever is
around you. The answer is in committing yourself to Christ every
moment for the strength that He has, but that we do not, to live the
Christian life. With His help we can resist
temptation, for His Word teaches that He will not allow
us to be tempted above what we are able, but with every
temptation will provide a way out. We also need to immerse
ourselves as much as possible in reading and studying His Word, in
prayer, in scripture memorization, Christian fellowship, and in fact
in all of the spiritual disciplines taught in God's Word.
Part of our vision for this ministry
is that there will be a permanent staff, but that many College-age
students (whether attending Secular Universities, Bible Colleges, or
working at their jobs or careers, will take a break for a Quarter, a
Semester, or a year or perhaps even in some cases two, to
live the born-again monastic lifestyle and serve in ministry, and
then return as stronger Christians to the rest of their lives.
As you may have seen on our web site,
we are taking applications at this time, but no new "live-in"
members at this time, and for perhaps a year. We are a relatively
new Christian ministry, and are currently in preparation to move to a
larger rural property. Also, as you probably already know, in
any case we can not accept anyone to live here under 18 yrs. old.
We recommend at this time that you
begin going through the Growing
In Christ Monastic Training Course that is posted free to all,
on our web site. We feel that this is beneficial for any Christian
who wishes to draw closer to God.
Your Evangelical friends' reactions
are totally understandable, and in fact, are what they should be.
We are a new and largely unknown ministry, and as such should be
scrutinized carefully. Also, we were the first 100% born-again
Evangelical monastery ever to exist (beginning July 19, 1999), so
it is no wonder that it is a new and different concept to the average
Christian. This is why we went to great effort to publish our complete
doctrinal views in our Statement
of Faith including the Plan
of Salvation pages. Why we have so many pages explaining
what we are trying to do (About
The Prayer Foundation, Our
Goals, Why Monks?, President's
Page: The Purpose of the Prayer Foundation, President's
Page: The Knights of Prayer Monastic Order, and many more).
And why our Links
page was put together, to show what ministries we believe similarly to (Hank
Hanegraaff: The Bible Answer Man, Billy Graham, J.
Vernon McGee, Luis Palau, L'Abri Fellowship
International, and so on). In fact, our entire fairly large
web site of 562 pages was designed to communicate exactly who we are,
and all that we believe and teach. Everything is on our web
site---we have no further information that is not on it (though we
are currently working on a book that we hope to publish in the next year
or two). The Books
and Movies that we
have reviewed and recommend also give a good idea of where we stand.
So our reasons for living the way we do, with scriptural backing, is all to
be found on our web site. Start at the pages mentioned above, and
they will "link" you to other pages.

PF, Dear
PF, 8/7/03__________________________________________________ I thought you might appreciate this article I wrote just recently, that references material from my new book, Spurgeon on Leadership, which is due to be released by Kregel Publications this Fall. If you would like to include it on your website, I would be most honored.
What a refreshing approach. My heart
joins with you in hopes that through all our prayers the
Kingdom of our Lord and of our Christ will reign in the hearts of many
persons as God's Spirit draws to Himself those for whom Christ died.
I will stay in touch.
Blessings to you:

Dear Prayer Foundation members,
Thank you ever so much for your research
on the Mother
Teresa poem. I had been wondering
for 2 years on how this poem came about and then a friend asked me
about it, but my own research found no answer. I am so grateful
for your help. Thank you all, especially the one who took the time
to research the answer for me. God's Blessings upon you all
always. Thank you also for dedicating your lives to prayer and
praise to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Sincerely,
Joyce K. (California)
