Hello, I accidentally found your site and really enjoyed looking at it.  I have been a Monastic at heart for years also.  My husband and I listened to the entire J. Vernon McGee five yr. Bible study in the 1970's.  We belong to an Anglican Monastic Order, the Order of Desert Carmelites.  We also have a lot of Celtic Tradition in our Order.  Could you share with me how you observe Holy Communion?   I would really appreciate hearing about that.  It is a central element of our Order and we blend traditions in our Eucharist.  We are a conservative, Biblically based fellowship also.  Would love to hear from you, many blessings,

Sr. Susan, ODC

Answer from The Prayer Foundation : When just Monks are involved, and we are praying; we almost always light a candle and incense.  Monk Preston will take up the wafers (we generally use Lutheran ones, but a loaf of bread can be nice too, then each person will break off their own piece).
He then says the applicable Bible verses..."On the same night that the Lord was betrayed...." and breaks the wafer at the part where Christ said, "this is my body which is broken for you..."  Then he hands Communion wafers to each Monk.  Then he does the same with the cup, saying the applicable verse.
Our belief in the priesthood of all believers, means to us that any born-again Christian in right relationship to the Lord, male or female, legally ordained or not, may officiate and administer communion if authorized to do so by the presiding Pastor (Bishop).
In a public service, we may be more formal, yet still as simple.  We then use small individual cups.

My name is Ramon, I am 15 years old.  I would like to know what would I have to do if I wanted to become a Monk and perhaps go and form part of The Green Monks one day.
...I wish to...become a monk, do God's will and prepare myself for His arrival.  I have considered that by becoming a monk I could do God's will 80 percent better that if I just stayed as a "normal" person with a "normal life."  I am seriously considering this, so if you could offer me some information about what one has to do to be a part of the Green Monks , I would be ever thankful to you.

God bless,
Ramon (Puerto Rico)

Answer from The Prayer Foundation :  If you are interested in a closer walk with God, we recommend going through the Growing In Christ Monastic Training Course that is posted free on our web site.  This is the same training that all of our Monks go through, and we recommend it for every Christian.

All of the information about Registering as a Lay Monk can be found on our web site (there is no age requirement to do this).  A good place to start would be our pages Become A Monk! and Monk Certificate & Card.  These also have "links " to many other related pages.

As far as living here in the monastery, first, you would have to be a minimum of eighteen years old.  You also would still have to apply and be accepted to do that, even if you are a Registered Lay Monk.  We pray that God will send us the people He wants to be a part of this ministry, and keep away the people that He doesn't want to be a part of this ministry (we learned this from Francis and Edith Schaeffer (L'Abri).  Our other requirements and information concerning this can be found on our pages: Joining Our Portland Monastery, and Affiliated Lay Monastic Community.

Dear Prayer Foundation,
I really enjoyed hearing back from you in regard to the survey I had taken on your site.  Your commitment and dedication to The Prayer Foundation are apparent, and I pray God will bless and greatly multiply the fruit of your efforts.
                                                                                                                            The Prayer Foundation
is pioneering a bold and original concept, and I believe there is a definite need for this kind of ministry. The space you are filling seems largely unexplored, and I feel there is great potential to minister to the world online, renew the importance of prayer, and draw people to the monastic lifestyle.  With God's guidance and your willing hearts, I'm certain your organization will continue to expand and touch people's lives through your ministry and prayer.

Though I've already signed up as a Prayer Warrior, I'm seriously considering becoming a Postulant monk in your order.  I've always felt a strong pull towards the monastic life and your eclectic revival of born again monastic living is exactly what I've believed in my heart but never knew existed.  Though I haven't made my commitment yet, my choice to do so seems inevitable.  I look forward to walking with you in prayer and humility towards God, growing stronger daily through the Holy Spirit as we conform to His will, and working together to bring the light of Jesus Christ to every corner of the world.

I pray for the stability, growth, and longevity of The Prayer Foundation and it's members.  I pray you soon acquire land to establish your headquarters and that you will not want for skilled and devoted applicants. And I encourage you to keep up the good work!  Thanks again for your sincere and personal response to my submitted survey.

Grace and Peace,
Robert (Kansas)

I was surprised and delighted to find your web site.  You are an answer to my prayers.  Blessed be the Name of our Lord God.  Please, at your earliest convenience, send me your Monk Certificate & Card.  I am looking forward to taking the prescribed course of study (Growing In Christ Monastic Training Series).  Enclosed please find my donation to your ministry.  Thank you again for this wonderful opportunity to belong to what I perceive to be a gift from God.  I will send a contribution to support your ministry every month from now on.                                 Yours in Christ Jesus,                                                                             Bro. John R. (New York)
