Brothers & Sisters,                                                                                    I'm a soldier in Kuwait/Iraq.  I just got back from a couple days in Iraq (from Kuwait).  Truly an eye opening experience, once you cross into that Country, it's as if you've entered the time of the Bible, and you feel out of place with all these Modern military vehicles coming through, with vehicles racing through with TV written on the side.  I turned and looked at a little girl about 8, she smiled and I saw the uncertainty, mixed with expectation in Hers, we moved on down the road past blown up trucks tanks cars, a Mig 21 still on the ground since '91, to a more modern Iraq!                                                                                                                I then realized that the country has one foot, still In the days of Abraham, and the other in the 21st century.  One part showing the greediness of man, man that's turned his back on God, and another side ripe for evangelization.  I saw a lot of things, but the greatest thing I felt and what I can't seem to shake, was the feeling that Jesus was saying I'm here and I love these people.  I felt a great need for prayer for the people of Iraq!  Like an evil spiritual force was ruling over that area, so the next wave, had to be Prayer covering, that the battle has now accelerated into the Heavenly.  That's my interpretation of the trip.        God bless,                                                                                                    Mike (Kuwait / Iraq)

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
I am writing you because the Lord has put it on my heart to be more adamant in practicing the spiritual disciplines.  I find myself doing more studying than praying, more asking than listening and so forth.  I have devoted my life to full time ministry @ my local church and found myself putting more on doing than on my personal walk.  I would like to spend some time just focusing on that, and I was hoping that your organization or one like yours might be able to help me.  I suppose what I am looking for is "a spiritual mentor".  I don't know.  Please respond.
Yours in Christ,
William
Answer from The Prayer Foundation Our entire website was created for the purposes you mention.  Specifically, on our website is our Growing in Christ Series which is the Monastic Training Course for our Monks.  We have posted it on our site because we feel it to be beneficial to anyone.  It includes Prayer, Memorization, Fasting, Fellowship, Witnessing, Recommended Books and Radio Programs, etc. (highly recommended radio programs: J. Vernon Mcgee and the Bible Answer Man: Hank Hanegraaff).  Our Books and Movies sections contain much that should be helpful (see particularly our pages: Recommended Books and Recommended Movies). We particularly recommend any book on prayer by E. M. Bounds (his book Power Through Prayer is posted on our site).  And of course we have the Daily Office: Praying the Hours Section also on our site.

Dear Monk Linda,
I was just wondering what made you realize that being a monk was what God intended for your life?
Also I listen to J. Vernon McGee and love his show when I can listen to it but was just thinking why would a Catholic monastery listen to him or are you guys different from the Catholics because we Episcopalians pray the Hours as well?
And is the Monastery self-supporting in the way of food and other stuff?
Sincerely,
Sally (Elizabeth, Colorado)

                                                                                                                          Dear Knights of Prayer,
Hello, I am just writing you this email in order to ask about your
Monastery.  I just was wondering how old you have to be in order to pursue an interest in joining your gracious Monastery.  I was also wondering if a female could also join the Monastery.  Please let me know. Thank you for your time.
God Bless You All.
Alessia (New York)
Answer from The Prayer Foundation : You can register as an affiliated Lay Monk at any age.  To live in Community you would have to be a minimum of eighteen years old.  It is our preference that our monks should be evenly divided, half being male and half being female.

You will find more specific information on our web site on our pages: Become A Monk!, Joining Our Portland Monastery, Monk Linda: The First Lady Monk, and Why Lady Monks?  These pages also contain links to other informative pages that will help answer any additional questions that you might have.

We are not accepting postulants (new monks) in the monastery right now, but are taking applications: If you would like to be placed on a tentative waiting list (no commitment at this time is necessary), you should e-mail us telling us about yourself with an accompanying photo: age, history, Christian History/background, education level, job training, hobbies, interests, why you want to be a monk, why with our ministry, any special medical needs or problems.
