I've always been intrigued by the monastic life and, as a Protestant, was
happy to discover your website.  I just wondered if plans for the monastery are already beginning to unfold or if it is still in the idea stage.  I hope to see it become a reality for you. Perhaps I will pursue something like this down the road. If you have any other information you could send me via e-mail I'd greatly appreciate it.
God Bless!
Jill G. (Tulsa, Oklahoma)

Reply from The Prayer Foundation :  In 1997 Monk Preston and Monk Linda began living their lives as monastics.  In early 1998 they visited ancient Celtic monastic sites in Ireland, and also Assisi in Italy.  They felt that they were called to found a "prayer encouragement ministry" for the Body of Christ (and that all Christian ministries should also preach the Gospel), and that the lifestyle should be Celtic monastic.

The Prayer Foundation was legally Incorporated in the State of Oregon on July 19, 1999 as an Interdenominational Christian Para-church (works alongside aiding the Church) organization.  In February of 2000, we received 501(c)3 Status from the IRS (Contributions are tax-deductible to U.S. Citizens).

The Knights of Prayer Monastic Order was also founded at that time as one of the ministries of The Prayer Foundation .  It was the first Monastic Order formed of 100% Born-again Christians, and the first to give Full Monk Status to women.  Monk Linda became the First Lady Monk in the history of Christianity.  Monk Bob and Monk Danny soon joined them, adding their respective Evangelism and Music ministries.

On Nov. 8, 2000, The Prayer Foundation Web Site went online with about twelve pages, including our 24-Hr. Prayerchain.  Currently we receive over 100,000 hits per month on our site (as of 3/17/03).

At this time we have received Prayer Requests from 43 Countries, and Christians in 7 Countries and 35 U.S. States have volunteered as Prayer Warriors on our 24-Hr. Prayerchain. There are currently Registered Knights of Prayer Lay Monks in 11 U.S. States and Canada.
We own a small house in Portland, Oregon that we are "fixing up" to use as a down-payment on country acreage for needed larger facilities.  We hope to move sometime in the next year.  Projected for the future: Retreat center, Public Gardens and religious services, and an affiliated Lay Monastic Community.
Right now we are taking applications for those who feel called to be a part of our Portland Community (see our page: Joining Our Portland Monastery this page has "links" to many other related informational pages).

All of our information is on our web site, except that we have a monthly E-newsletter that tells what's new on our web site (see: Sample Newsletter!).  We only send this to you if you request it, and you may "unsubscribe" at any time.

The pages on our site that will update you as to what is currently happening with regards to our ministry are: New Pages!, and Prayer Foundation News!.

I am doing a school project about Beijing and need to find and contact a missionary from China.  I was wondering if you could provide me with an e-mail address for someone, preferably home on furlough, who would be able to tell me more about the country as well as what ministry they are involved in.  If they are currently in the field, please let me know if their ministry is done in secret or not.  I don't want to ruin anything for them.  I know that you are a prayer Foundation, but I would greatly appreciate any help you could provide.  One last thing, I would like to obtain the Hudson Taylor book.                                                                                                      Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon.                                      Yvonne

Reply from The Prayer Foundation :  When the Communists took over China in 1949, they ordered all missionaries to leave the country.  All of the evangelism done in China by individuals from other countries is done secretly and with a certain amount of risk.  Chinese Christians who evangelize experience extreme risk.  Our policy is never to give out any e-mail addresses because Chinese Christians are daily in danger of suffering imprisonment, torture, and even execution if they do not obey the many laws limiting the practice of their faith.

See our page: Monk William in China, and other information on China listed on our: China Pages.  Also see the "China" information our page: Worldwide Persecution of Christians.  As far as persecution of Christians in Beijing, see our page: Open Letter: Church in China.

Information on how to obtain the book, Hudson Taylor: Founder, China Inland Mission, can be found on our page: Gifts for Contributors, under the Category: Books (Printed).

See Monk William's response and reply to us, and to Yvonne's letter, and also some additional China information from Open Doors (Brother Andrew) on our page: Open Letter: Evangelizing China Today.

Good, afternoon;                                                                                            I wish to thank you so much for answering my e-mails. It was very kind of you.  I was so happy to hear the good news.  I can't believe that I will, at last, own my "A.D." Mini-Series videos.  I've been waiting for this moment, for so long.  It happened so ironically.  I was looking for something on the internet, and I decided, once more, to look for that Mini-series.  I just pressed A.D., then, voila!  I was so stunned.

I will send a cheque for the uncut version.  I will gladly make that donation.  It's for a good cause.

Thank you once more.                                                                                    May God bless you and all your personnel.                                         Suzanne R. (Canada)
