Pilgrimage: Egypt |

Joseph of the Old Testament: Egypt, land of the Pyramids. Land of Bible Stories. Here Joseph, the son of Jacob, was sold into slavery. Here he interpreted dreams and rose in power second only to Pharaoh, that God might save his people Israel from famine. Here Israel was enslaved by Pharaoh, then delivered by God using a man named Moses. All events directed by God to point to the Saviour of the world, the Messiah who would be sent by God.
Sculpted stone head of Pharaoh Ramses. Moses' adopted brother? Think Yul Brynner in Cecil B. De Mille's The Ten Commandments. Joseph of the New Testament: In the New Testament, we read that the angel of the Lord appeared to another Joseph, the husband of Mary, in a dream; telling him to take Mary and the child Jesus and flee from Herod into Egypt. Herod would soon order all male children under two years old killed. Joseph obeyed God. (Joseph) "...took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt; and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son." -Matthew 2:14,15 _________________________________________ |
