and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

"And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."  -Acts 1:10,11

"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."          -John 3:5

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;"  -Titus 3:5

who proceeds from the Father; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:"  -John 15:26

"Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"  -Matthew 28:19

"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."                        -II Peter 1:21

And I believe in one holy universal and apostolic Church.

"Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.  And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.-John 17:20-23

"I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism; One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."  -Ephesians 4:1-6

"And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence."  -Colossians 1:18

"And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers."  -Acts 2:42

I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins;

"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"  -Matthew 28:18,19

"And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." -Luke 24;47

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."  -Acts 2:38

“The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:”                   -I Peter 3:21

"Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."  -Romans 6:3,4

and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

  • Additional Information on the Nicene Creed:

aball1i.gif (324 bytes) 1. The Unique Place Held by the Nicene Creed in Christianity:

The Nicene Creed is the only creed accepted by all three major branches of Christianity: Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Protestant

It was adopted by a general Council of the entire Church (Ecumenical) in 325 A.D. and revised by a general council of the entire Church in 381 A.D.

aball1i.gif (324 bytes) 2. The Nicene Creed's Use in Christian Worship:

"Traditional liturgical worship always includes the Nicene Creed whenever there is Communion.

It is a corporate proclamation that corresponds to the Schema (“Hear, O Israel, the Lord thy God is one”) in the synagogue liturgy."**

aball1i.gif (324 bytes) 3. The Nicene Creed and its Relation to the Canonicity of the New Testament:

For those Protestants who use it, the Nicene Creed stands or falls on whether it accurately states basic Bible doctrines.

Some Protestant groups reject all Creeds on principle ("No creed but the Bible"; "No Creed but Christ").

But they too, in fact accept all of the basic historic Biblical doctrines taught in the Nicene Creed, because it is based on Scripture verses found in the Bible.

Many Protestants are surprised to learn that the Canon of  the New Testament Books of the Bible had not yet been established at the time of the composition of the Nicene Creed.

The Nicene Creed, itself based on many verses taken from Scripture, was actually used as an aid in determining the Canonicity of some of the Books of the New Testament.

aball1i.gif (324 bytes) 4. The Nicene Creed and its Relation to Pre-New Testament Apostolic Oral Teaching:

The Nicene Creed was a formal, universally recognized (by the entire Church: Ecumenical) summary of essential Apostolic teaching based on the earlier Rule of Faith (which was never officially set down into a final, standardized form), and certain of the early Baptismal Creeds.

Both of these early forms of Christian "Symbols" were in existence and use by the Churches before the books of the New Testament had yet been declared to be a part of the official Canon of Scripture. _______________

    The Apostle's Creed:

The Apostle's Creed originated as, and was used as, a Baptismal Creed in the Western Church.

As a Creed used in the Liturgy, it serves as a confirmation of the confession made at one's Baptism. _____________

    (Eternally) Begotten of the Father:

"A father begets, a mother conceives God the Son is begotten of the Father and conceived of the Virgin Mary.  The begetting is an eternal relationship, the conception is an event in time."* _______________

"God from God, Light from Light":

A favorite analogy of the Athanasians was the following:

Light is continuously streaming forth from the sun.

The rays of light are derived from the sun, and not vice versa.

But it is not the case that first the sun existed and afterwards the Light.

It is possible to imagine that the sun has always existed, and always emitted light.

The Light, then, is derived from the sun, but the Light and the sun would exist simultaneously throughout eternity.

    They would be co-eternal.

Just so, the Son exists because the Father exists, but there was never a time before the Father "begot" the Son.

The analogy is further appropriate because we can know the sun only through the rays of light that it emits.

To see the sunlight is to see the sun. Just so, Jesus says,

"He who has seen me has seen the Father." -John 14:9 _______________ holy universal and apostolic Church...

There is only one holy universal/catholic Church, Christ's body, of which Christ Himself is the head, and whose members consist of all truly believing Christians on earth and in heaven.

Whose members are recorded in Heaven.

An apostolic Church following the teaching of the Apostles revealed through God's Word in the New Testament (Apostle Paul in Colossians 1:18, Christ in Matthew 18:20).

The view of Protestants is that God has revealed in His Holy Scriptures that Christ is the head of His (universal/catholic) Church (Apostle Paul in Colossians 1:18).

It is therefore understood that no church can save you (whether Protestant, Eastern Orthodox, or Roman Catholic).

    Only Christ can save you.

And only when we have received Christ personally, as our Lord and Saviour, are we members of Christ's own Church, which is composed of His Body, (all true believers in Him).

Then will we be placed on its members list which is recorded in Heaven (Hebrews 12:23; Apostle John in Revelation 12:27; Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:3)

There is no salvation outside of Christ, as Christ Himself taught us (Apostle John in John 14:6).

There is therefore truly "no Salvation outside of the Church" (the Church being Christ's body, composed of all believing Christians, whether on earth or in Heaven, Christ Himself being the head).

All believing Christians are Christ's Church (His Body).  It is therefore not possible to be "in Christ" and therefore a member (part) of His Body, the Church, and not also be in Christ's "one holy universal and Apostolic church".

Christ's one true Church, His Body,  (Apostle Paul in I Timothy 3:15) is Apostolic, and any partial gathering ("local Church") "in His Name" of "two or three" or more Christians (Matthew 18:20) that we also refer to as a "Church" is also Apostolic, if it is "built upon the foundation of the Apostles" (their teaching as revealed in the Holy Scriptures).  This is the teaching of the Apostle Paul (Ephesians 2:20).

"It is remarkable that our Lord, in His sacerdotal prayer (Gospel of John, Chapter 17), which is the magna charta of Christian union, makes no reference to the Church or to any outward organization.  The communion of saints has its source and center in their union with Christ, and this reflects his union with the Father."  *** _______________ baptism for the remission of sins...

There is only one baptism observed as the "outward sign" and public confession of the "inward grace" of our death and rebirth in Christ, upon repentance and faith toward God, resulting in the remission/forgiveness of our sins through Christ's shed blood (Apostle Peter in Acts 2:38, Apostle Paul in Ephesians 2:8,9, Christ in Matthew 26:28).

A Sacrament (Baptism and The Lord's Supper) is "the outward sign of an inward and spiritual grace".

The Apostle Paul teaches (Romans 6:3,4) that Baptism is a symbol for the death and resurrection we experience when we receive Christ by faith (Ephesians 2:8,9)

That this "outward sign" represents the spiritual reality or "inward grace" of our regeneration, new birth, being born again in Christ.

The spiritual reality is our "conversion experience"; being "baptized into Christ...putting on Christ" (Galatians 2:37).

The Apostle Peter teaches that the Baptismal water by itself (apart from faith) only removes "the filth of the flesh" (I Peter 3:21).  The Apostle Peter teaches "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins" (Acts 2:38).

By the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Peter shows that what is of more importance is "the answer of a good conscience towards God" (I Peter 3:21).

The Apostle Peter goes on to teach that sincere repentance results in the forgiveness of our sins by Christ (Acts 2:38; also in Luke 24:47), made possible by Christ's shed blood, as Christ Himself taught us (Matthew 26:28) and its efficacy is proved by His Resurrection (I Peter 3:21).

If you have repented and received Christ, ("conversion experience") your sins have been remitted (forgiven), and your baptism becomes a public confession of this (Acts 2:38).  _______________
