Winner of Eleven Academy Awards®
"A lavish, colorful spectacle that will linger long in the eye of the beholder." (New York Daily News), this cinematic masterwork tells the story of Ben-Hur (brilliantly portrayed by Charlton Heston), a Judean prince whose unjust arrest and enslavement culminates in a breathtaking chariot race, wherein he wreaks a shattering vengeance upon the Roman Tribune who destroyed his family. Winner of a record eleven Academy Awards® (1959)--including Best Picture and Best Actor (Heston) --Ben-Hur "ranks in the very forefront of the great motion pictures of the screen's history." (Motion Picture Herald).
Did You Know...?
50,000 extras were hired for Ben-Hur, with 15,000 appearing in the chariot race sequence alone. To feed this army, M-G-M built a special commissary which allowed the studio to feed 5,000 people in only 20 minutes.

This fictional story about early followers of Christ has a strong Christian message. One of Charlton Heston's best roles...this is an all-time Classic Film.
An interesting historical fact is that the book was written in the late 1800's by a man who had been Governor of New Mexico Territory. While Governor, he had sent out Sheriff Pat Garrett to find Billy the Kid.
