A Morning Prayer Service: |
||||
|
Note: This is not a separate Service for the Monks here; we use it to begin either our One Daily Hour of Prayer, or the first of The Threefold Daily Prayers (if observed individually); whichever comes first that day. If you do not observe either of these times of prayer, it may be used as an entirely separate Service. Sometime during each day, usually during our One Daily Hour of Prayer; though either may be offered at any time during the day; we will confess/pray The Nicene Creed, which we recommend for all Christians, and The Rule of Monk Preston, which we recommend for all of our Lay Monks. If you usually Sing or Say the Prayer Upon Arising: St. Patrick's Breastplate (with or without Psalm 5), but have not already done so today, they may be prayed now. (Sing
or Say:) "Evening, and morning, and at noon will I pray, and cry aloud; and he shall hear my voice." -Psalm 55:17 "Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime." -Daniel 6:10 I John 1:8-9 "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (Extemporaneous confession of sin may be made here.) Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. "It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness." -Lamentations 3:22-23 "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." -Psalm 118:24 "Consecrate yourselves today to the LORD...that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day." -Exodus 32:29 (Sing
or Say:) Praise
God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him all creatures here
below. Praise Him above, ye heavenly host.
