C. S. Lewis 1898-1963 (Photo by Hulton Deutsch Collection/John Chillingworth) Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably the most influential Christian writer of his day. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. C. S. Lewis was the most popular and best-selling theologian of the entire Twentieth Century, an amazing fact considering that technically, he wasn't a Theologian at all, but an Oxford Professor of English Medieval and Renaissance literature. His books include The Chronicles of Narnia fantasy series and his science fiction Space Trilogy. Both series are must reading for all Christians interested in these genres. His most famous book among non-Christians is The Screwtape Letters. __________________ Also available on Cassette from HarperAudio and in paperback from HarperSanFrancisco, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers. __________________ |
Author: C. S. Lewis (Read by: Robert Whitfield) Take A Bus Ride Through Heaven and Hell In The Great Divorce C. S. Lewis again employs his formidable talent for fable and allegory. The writer, in a dream, boards a bus on a drizzly afternoon and embarks on an incredible voyage through Heaven and Hell. He meets a host of supernatural beings far removed from his expectations and comes to significant realizations about the ultimate consequences of everyday behavior. This is the starting point for a profound meditation upon good and evil. "If we insist on keeping Hell (or even Earth) we shall not see Heaven: if we accept Heaven we shall not be able to retain even the smallest and most intimate souvenirs of Hell." _________________________ Tell others about Jesus like C. S. Lewis did: Though we are not all called to the ministry of Christian Writer, we are all called by God to share our faith (witness) with those who are not Christians. Some Bible verses that you will find helpful for doing this, and that you may want to commit to memory are found on other pages on our web site (see: Memory Verses; 2nd Set: Salvation!, Plan of Salvation, and Statement of Faith). _________________________
