Francis and Edith Schaeffer: Defenders of the Faith

Tell others about Jesus like Francis and Edith Schaeffer did: Though not all Christians are called to the full-time Christian Teaching Ministry, we are all called by God to share our faith (witness) with those who are not Christians. Some Bible verses that you will find helpful for doing this, and that you may want to commit to memory are found on other pages on our web site (see: Memory Verses; 2nd Set: Salvation!, Plan of Salvation, and Statement of Faith). _________________

"In a war of ideas, they led the charge." Though he would become one of the twentieth century's greatest defenders of Christianity, Francis Schaeffer didn't like the church while growing up. He felt that the answers from the pulpit were unconvincing. Where were the real solutions to life's most important questions? In desperation, Francis started to read the Bible on his own. From the first page of the Book of Genesis, the thundering authority of God's Word changed his life. He realized for the first time that there is a God of the universe, and that He is intensely personal. Before long, he and his new wife, Edith, began a powerful ministry of defending the faith, boldly opposing the relativistic secularism that was creeping into the modern church. Their calling led them to a chalet in the Swiss Alps, where they created a home called L'Abri ("the shelter"), which welcomed all who were disillusioned and searching.
